[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] To respond to population decline, Hamyang-gun, Gyeongnam Province, has been promoting the 'Having a Local Address' county-wide relay challenge since the 12th, with participation from local institutions and organizations continuing.

According to the county on the 23rd, the relay challenge, now in its second week, began with Hwang Tae-jin, Chairman of the Hamyang County Council, followed by the Hamyang County Sports Council, Hamyang Police Station, and the 3rd Battalion of the Army's 8962nd Unit joining in.

The organizations participating in the Having a Local Address challenge expressed, "We are pleased to take part in this meaningful challenge for the development of Hamyang-gun," and added, "We will continue to actively cooperate with various policies of Hamyang-gun, including efforts to increase the population."

The relay challenge is set to enter its third week as Park Jeom-bok, commander of the 3rd Battalion of the Army's 8962nd Unit, the last participant of the second week, nominated Noh Ki-chang, head of the Hamyang branch of NongHyup Bank, as the next participant.

Meanwhile, Hamyang-gun's population has been decreasing by about one person per day over the past five years due to low birth rates and aging. As of the 19th, the population dropped to 38,992, but through various efforts such as the Having a Local Address campaign and discovering customized new policies for Hamyang-gun, the population recovered to 39,019 as of the 22nd, steadily maintaining the 39,000 range.
