KOSPI Fluctuates Around '3180 Level'... Both Individuals and Institutions Net Buyers

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jihwan] On the 23rd, the KOSPI continued to fluctuate within a narrow range in the afternoon session.

As of 1:49 PM, the KOSPI stood at 3,183.75, up 6.23 points (0.20%) from the previous day. The index faced downward pressure in the early session due to news of the U.S. government's capital gains tax hike. However, since the tax increase issue had already been priced into the market, its impact was limited.

By investor type, individual and institutional investors were net buyers of 166.8 billion KRW and 61.4 billion KRW respectively, while foreign investors were net sellers of 223.7 billion KRW.

Among the top 10 KOSPI stocks by market capitalization, Samsung Electronics (-0.12%), SK Hynix (-1.50%), NAVER (-0.53%), Hyundai Motor (-2.21%), and Samsung SDI (-0.15%) showed weakness. On the other hand, LG Chem (0.23%), Samsung Biologics (0.50%), and Celltrion (0.35%) rose.

The KOSDAQ was trading at 1,026.39, up 0.68 points (0.07%) from the previous day. By supply and demand, institutions were net buyers of 38.5 billion KRW, while individuals and foreigners were net sellers of 25.7 billion KRW and 0.2 billion KRW respectively.

Among the top 10 KOSDAQ stocks by market capitalization, EcoPro BM (1.90%), Kakao Games (1.79%), Celltrion Healthcare (0.32%), and Celltrion Pharm (0.07%) rose. Alteogen (-2.74%), Studio Dragon (-0.98%), SK Materials (-0.57%), CJ ENM (-0.48%), and HLB (-0.44%) declined.
