[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Yeongdeungpo-gu (District Mayor Chaehyunil) recently announced that it is operating a night tax consultation office every Tuesday to address the increase in tax consultation civil complaints following the local tax system reform and to assist taxpayers who find it difficult to receive tax consultations during working hours.

A district official explained that tax consultation complaints have been steadily increasing due to the recent rise in official real estate prices, heavy acquisition tax on multi-homeowners, and post-management of local tax exemptions for rental housing, and that this measure was implemented to alleviate the inconvenience of civil petitioners who find it difficult to visit the district office during working hours.

Accordingly, the night tax consultation office operates every Tuesday from 6 PM to 8 PM at the specialized consultation room on the first floor of the Yeongdeungpo-gu Office main building.

The night consultation office provides comprehensive consultations on local taxes such as acquisition tax and property tax.

Additionally, starting from the 27th, a one-stop consultation service related to national and local taxes, including capital gains tax, inheritance and gift tax, and comprehensive real estate tax?which have recently attracted increased interest from residents due to the rise in official real estate prices?will also be provided.

With the operation of the one-stop service, the previous inconvenience of having to inquire separately at the tax office for national taxes such as capital gains tax and at the district office for local taxes such as acquisition tax is expected to be significantly reduced.

The one-stop service operates biweekly and is entirely free of charge thanks to volunteer tax accountants in the district.

All consultations are conducted strictly following quarantine rules such as temperature checks, hand sanitization, and mandatory mask-wearing to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Residents wishing to receive consultations should make a reservation with the Yeongdeungpo-gu Office Taxation Division specifying the visit date, time, and consultation details before visiting.

Chaehyunil, Mayor of Yeongdeungpo-gu, stated, “We have started operating the night tax consultation office to reduce the inconvenience of residents who find it difficult to visit the district office during weekday working hours and to enhance taxpayer convenience,” adding, “We will continue to strive to improve trust in district administration and protect taxpayer rights by providing administrative services tailored to residents’ needs.”
