Gwanak District Youth Hub 'Gwanak Cheongnyeoncheong' Construction Progressing Smoothly

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] The construction project of ‘Gwanak Youth Center,’ a comprehensive activity hub space for youth in Gwanak-gu (1759 Nambusunhwan-ro), is progressing smoothly.

During the 7th term of the civilian administration, Gwanak-gu (Mayor Park Jun-hee) recognized that the district has the highest youth population ratio in the country (40%) and identified a severe lack of spaces where young people can realize their potential and possibilities. To support various youth activities, the district has been promoting the establishment of the ‘Gwanak Youth Center’ as a youth activity space platform.

Since the design commencement in January last year, after collecting diverse opinions, consulting related organizations, holding interim review meetings, and completing various certifications, the final design was completed by the end of October. Following this, building demolition began in January this year, and currently, civil engineering work is underway. The construction is being accelerated with the goal of completion by the end of this year.

The Gwanak Youth Center, with a total project cost of 13 billion KRW, will be constructed based on the final design plan expressing ‘a free and dynamic space for youth activities and a place for youth exchange communicating with the local community.’ It will have a total floor area of 1,533.39㎡, spanning one basement floor and seven above-ground floors.

Key facilities include a youth caf? & bar on the 2nd floor serving as a community space for young people; multipurpose auditoriums and seminar rooms on the 3rd and 4th floors for events and meetings; the 5th floor will house individual workrooms and a one-person media room dedicated to work; and the 6th and 7th floors will feature coworking offices, youth startup incubation rooms, and shared kitchens for collaboration.

The district plans to support the ‘Gwanak Youth Center’ to establish itself as a central hub for youth by serving as an open space for young people and functioning as a youth policy hub that nurtures their potential through various programs combining employment, startups, cultural and artistic activities, and community.

Mayor Park Jun-hee stated, “We will carry out the construction of the Gwanak Youth Center without any setbacks to alleviate the difficulties faced by young people and create a space where relationships can be formed and information shared.” He added, “We will continue to do our best to make Gwanak a youth-specialized district where young people want to live and stay by building diverse infrastructure and implementing youth-tailored policies.”
