[Asia Economy Reporter Han Jinju] Economic organizations have decided to propose a pardon for Samsung Electronics Vice Chairman Lee Jae-yong to the government.

On the 22nd, the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Korea Employers Federation, the Korea Federation of Small and Medium Business, the Korea International Trade Association, and the Korea Federation of Medium-sized Enterprises agreed to submit a petition requesting a pardon for Vice Chairman Lee Jae-yong within this month.

The Korea Employers Federation took the lead in drafting the pardon petition, which was circulated among the other organizations. The petition includes the statement that "given the difficulties facing our country's economy and the intensifying competition in the global semiconductor market, a pardon for Vice Chairman Lee is necessary."

Earlier, on the 16th, Korea Employers Federation Chairman Son Kyung-sik proposed a pardon for Vice Chairman Lee to Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance Hong Nam-ki during a meeting held at the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Jung-gu, Seoul, with the Deputy Prime Minister and heads of five economic organizations. He also mentioned that other organization heads showed positive responses.
