[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] The Blue House announced on the 22nd that it will operate a 'Vegetarian Day' in its cafeteria and conduct a lights-out event on the premises in observance of Earth Day.
At the cafeterias within the Blue House grounds, including the Chunchoogwan, vegetarian side dishes such as steamed rice bibimbap, napa cabbage soybean paste soup, mushroom sweet and sour dish, fruit salad, cabbage pickles, and kimchi will be served for lunch. From 8 PM, the main building interior, security lights, and plaza lights of the Blue House will be turned off for 10 minutes.
This event is part of efforts to respond to climate change and to provide a way for individuals to reduce carbon emissions without spending significant time or money. President Moon Jae-in emphasized at the Climate Adaptation Summit in January that "establishing and practicing small behavioral rules that can be implemented in daily life" is a way to achieve carbon neutrality.
The Blue House stated, "We will continue our efforts to reduce carbon emissions in daily life going forward."
