One Store Receives Prime Minister's Commendation for Contributions to Information and Communications Development

[Asia Economy Reporter Eunmo Koo] On the 21st, app market One Store announced on the 22nd that it received the Prime Minister's Commendation for Contributions to the Development of Information and Communications at the 2021 Science and Information and Communications Day ceremony held at Dongdaemun Design Plaza in Seoul.

Hosted by the Ministry of Science and ICT and the Korea Communications Commission, this event was held under the theme "Turning Crisis into Opportunity, Leading the Digital New Deal through Science and Technology and ICT," recognizing outstanding organizations and individuals who contributed to the development of information and communications and national informatization.

One Store was recognized for its achievements as Korea's representative app market, successfully playing the role of market regulator in the mobile app distribution platform industry. The organizers cited One Store's efforts in establishing a healthy content distribution ecosystem by challenging the monopoly of global app markets in the domestic mobile app distribution market, leading to changes in the monopolistic market structure, and its active win-win efforts that contributed to strengthening the competitiveness of the domestic game content industry as reasons for the award.

To foster a healthy content distribution ecosystem through cooperation with the industry, One Store significantly reduced its app distribution commission to 20% starting from July 2018, alleviating the burden on developers. Furthermore, since October last year, it has been implementing a policy to reduce commissions by 50% for businesses with monthly transaction amounts under 5 million KRW to support small and medium-sized developers. The number of companies and developers benefiting from this commission reduction exceeds 16,000, contributing to strengthening the foundation of the domestic content industry.

One Store's efforts to nurture the domestic game content industry also formed the background for receiving the commendation. One Store operates the "Beta Game Zone," which provides small-scale developers with opportunities for beta testing before game releases to cultivate their competitiveness. Additionally, it continues initiatives such as the "One Star Discovery Project," which provides development support funds to game companies to promote domestic game creation, the operation of the "Indie Game Zone" introducing indie games, and the "Regional Content Company Support Project" supporting local small and medium game production.

Lee Jaehwan, CEO of One Store, said, "Over the past five years, One Store has strived to achieve both corporate growth and win-win cooperation with the industry as Korea's representative app market. We will further accelerate growth to strengthen the foundation of our country's industry and create a healthy competitive environment against the monopoly of global platform companies," expressing his gratitude upon receiving the award.
