Jung Myung-hoon Releases Second Piano Album

"Desire to Express Life's Facets Through Composer's Late Works"

Jung Myung-hoon Releases Second Piano Album

Jung Myung-hoon will release a piano album titled 'Late Piano Works by Haydn, Beethoven, and Brahms' on the 22nd through the classical record label Deutsche Grammophon (DG). According to Universal Music, the album will be released digitally first on that day, followed by CD and LP formats.

This is Jung Myung-hoon's second piano album. In December 2013, he released 'Jung Myung-hoon, Piano' through the renowned German label ECM. A Universal Music representative explained, "Although he has mainly been active as a conductor, the album project was undertaken based on his desire to record pieces that showcase his skills as a pianist."

Jung stated, "Composers experience the beautiful journey of life and the freedom of the soul through the piano works they completed in their later years," adding, "I had a personal desire to express various facets of life through music." The piano pieces he focused on are Haydn's 'Piano Sonata No. 60,' Beethoven's 'Piano Sonata No. 30,' and Brahms' 'Four Piano Pieces,' all of which share the commonality of being completed by the composers in their later years.

To commemorate the album release, Jung will hold recitals in Daegu (23rd), Gunpo (24th), Suwon (27th), and Seoul (28th and 30th). He will perform not only the three pieces included in the album but also Brahms' 'Three Intermezzi' and others. It is reported that Jung has always kept the piano close and played it even while being busy as a conductor. He has showcased his skills mainly in some invited solo recitals, collaborations combining conducting, or chamber music performances.
