Professor Yoon Seok-nyeon of Gwangju University Awarded Geunjeong Medal on 'Science and Information Communication Day'


[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Gwan-woo] Gwangju University announced on the 22nd that Professor Yoon Seok-nyeon of the Department of Journalism and Broadcasting received the Geunjeong Medal at the ‘2021 Science and Information and Communications Day Ceremony’ held at Seoul DDP on the 21st.


Professor Yoon was recognized for his contributions to broadcasting and telecommunications convergence and legislation while serving as the Chair of the Regulatory Review Committee of the Korea Communications Commission.


In particular, he actively fulfilled advisory roles on broadcasting and telecommunications policies while serving as a professor in the Department of Journalism and Broadcasting at Gwangju University, and through his activities as the 27th President of the Korean Society for Journalism and Communication Studies, he contributed to building relationships between media-related companies and academia.


Professor Yoon is also committed to promoting fair competition among media companies and protecting users, striving for the development of broadcasting and telecommunications. In recognition of these contributions, he received a commendation from the Chairman (ministerial level) of the Korea Communications Commission in December last year.


Professor Yoon said, “I feel proud that I have been able to contribute even a little to the convergence and development of broadcasting and telecommunications in our country while serving as a professor in the Department of Journalism and Broadcasting at Gwangju University for over 30 years.”


Meanwhile, Professor Yoon, who concurrently serves as the Director of Public Relations and the weekly editor of the university newspaper at Gwangju University, is currently also serving as the Chair of the Broadcasting Advisory Special Committee of the Korea Communications Standards Commission. He has held positions such as mediator of the Gwangju Mediation Division of the Press Arbitration Commission, the 27th President of the Korean Society for Journalism and Communication Studies, President of the Gwangju-Jeonnam Association of Communication Scholars, and member of the Regional Newspaper Development Committee.
