Support for Non-Slip Mats and Indoor, Outdoor, and Bathroom Safety Handrails for Low-Income Elderly Households... Apply by Contacting Local Community Centers by the 30th
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Gwangjin-gu (District Mayor Kim Seongap) is providing home safety products to low-income elderly residents.
Started in 2019, this project was established to prevent safety accidents that may occur indoors and outdoors as elderly people spend more time at home due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic.
The target beneficiaries are elderly recipients of basic living subsidies and those in the lower-income bracket, who can apply by contacting their local community service center by the 30th of this month.
The support items include the existing non-slip mats and indoor/outdoor safety handrails, with the addition of new bathroom safety handrails starting this year.
Indoor and outdoor safety handrails are installed in slippery bathrooms and building staircases, allowing elderly residents to hold onto them and move safely.
Additionally, bathroom safety handrails are installed on both sides of the toilet to help elderly people easily stand up and sit down.
Along with this, the district will provide 1,700 magnifying glass nail clippers for elderly residents who have difficulty managing their nails due to age-related vision decline and thickening of fingernails and toenails.
The district plans to complete the demand survey by the end of this month and will sequentially install safety products tailored to the home environments of the elderly.
District Mayor Kim Seongap said, “We hope that elderly residents who are experiencing difficulties in daily life due to COVID-19 and other reasons can live more comfortably at home,” and added, “We will continue to prepare various welfare policies that residents can feel and benefit from.”
