[Asia Economy Reporter Naju-seok] Ahn Cheol-soo, leader of the People Power Party, denied the remarks made by Kim Jong-in, former emergency committee chairman of the People Power Party, who claimed that he conspired with Joo Ho-young, acting leader and floor leader of the People Power Party, during the unification process of the Seoul mayoral candidate for the April 7 by-election.
On the 21st, after holding a meeting with party members in the Gwangju area, Ahn said, "The remarks about Floor Leader Joo are not true," adding, "(Former Chairman Kim) is mistaken."
When asked whether there was prior consultation regarding the merger between the People Party and the People Power Party, he also denied it, saying, "That is not true."
In an interview with a media outlet, former Chairman Kim criticized Acting Leader Joo, saying, "He was the person who tried to make Ahn Cheol-soo the Seoul mayoral candidate," and added, "He couldn't say that to me directly, but behind my back, he conspired with Ahn Cheol-soo."
Regarding the opinions of Gwangju party members about the merger, Ahn said, "Some expressed concerns, while others were in favor," and added, "We plan to discuss based on the summarized opinions." About the party members' vote, he said, "By the 23rd, I will have held meetings with party members of the provincial party to some extent," and "Afterwards, the Supreme Council will make a decision to find the best way."
