Yeongsangang Regional Environmental Office Holds Video Conference to Prevent Chemical Accidents

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Gwan-woo] The Yeongsan River Basin Environmental Office announced on the 21st that it held a video conference to share information related to chemical accident prevention activities and the Chemical Substances Control Act in order to prevent chemical accidents amid the COVID-19 situation.

At the meeting, 13 companies, including GS Caltex and POSCO, representative companies of the Gwangju and Jeonnam chemical safety community, participated.

The Yeongsan River Office has been actively working on non-face-to-face tabletop training and information sharing activation (Naver Band and other SNS), sharing safety accident response information in preparation for the thawing season, as well as non-face-to-face guidance and inspections in accordance with the ongoing COVID-19 situation since last year.

During this meeting, requests for participation in the VALPS (Valve, Flange, Switch) campaign, this year's chemical safety community operation plan, amendments to the Chemical Substances Control Act, and other information were shared, and suggestions and opinions on chemical accident prevention from companies were heard.

Director Ryu Yeon-gi said, “Through non-face-to-face chemical accident prevention activities such as video conferences, we will continuously strengthen the communication and cooperation system between the public and private sectors, minimize blind spots for chemical accidents, and do our best to create a safe local community.”
