Installation of 'Video Guidance Control System' Using AI Cameras Enables Vacancy and Parking Location Detection
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] Seoul Facilities Corporation announced on the 22nd that it has introduced a service at Jongmyo Public Parking Lot that uses high-resolution cameras and AI video analysis technology to inform drivers of available parking spaces and guide them to their parked vehicle upon exit.
This service notifies drivers of the total and floor-specific number of available parking spaces and the nearest parking location and direction through a monitor above the entrance when a vehicle enters the parking lot. Additionally, when settling payment at the kiosk upon exit, users can check the location of their parked vehicle and the shortest walking distance. This eliminates the inconvenience for users of wandering around the parking lot to find an empty spot or their parked car.
While existing parking space notification services rely solely on location recognition sensors installed on the ceiling of the parking lot, the Corporation’s system integrates these sensors with CCTV, enabling not only parking guidance but also response to incidents such as theft or vehicle fires within the parking lot.
Jongmyo Public Parking Lot is a large-scale facility with 1,317 parking spaces and a structure divided into upper and lower sections even on the same floor, which had led to many user complaints regarding parking location confirmation. Since the pilot operation of this system at the end of last year, related complaints, which previously occurred more than 300 times per month on average, have significantly decreased to fewer than 25 cases per month after implementation, indicating that the new system has contributed to reducing user inconvenience.
Reducing the time for parking and exiting not only improves user convenience but is also expected to enhance air quality within the parking lot by decreasing engine idling and exhaust emissions during the shortened time.
The Corporation plans to install this service additionally at Cheonho Public Parking Lot within this year and, after analyzing operational performance, will expand its implementation to other public parking lots across Seoul.
