The Jeongyu War Viewed as a New Concept of Warfare
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] Suncheon City, Jeonnam (Mayor Heo Seok) announced on the 21st that it will hold a special lecture inviting scholar Kim Yong-ok, also known as Dool, on the 28th to reflect on the true meaning of the Jeongyujaeran (the second Japanese invasion of Korea).
The special lecture, scheduled for 3 p.m. on the 28th at the Suncheonman Ecological Culture Education Center, was organized to inform citizens about the history of Jeongyujaeran.
Under the theme "Dool Talks about the Jeongyujaeran in Suncheon," the lecture will provide an opportunity to understand the true meaning of Jeongyujaeran as well as the patriotic spirit of the Honam people who defended Joseon.
In particular, scholar Dool interprets Jeongyujaeran not as a re-invasion but as a war separate from the Imjin War, and plans to reflect on its significance in Suncheon, the site of the last major battle during the war.
The lecture will minimize on-site attendance in accordance with COVID-19 prevention guidelines and will also be conducted through broadcast recording.
The broadcast will air on Yeosu MBC around 8:50 p.m. on the 15th of next month, and will be available on YouTube after the broadcast.
On-site attendance is free but limited to the first 70 people, and applications can be made by phone to the Suncheon City Department of Culture and Arts.
A Suncheon City official said, "Through this special lecture, we hope citizens will learn the correct concept of Jeongyujaeran and have an opportunity to take an interest in the history of our region."
