Exceeded 21,468 Tons CO2eq Reduction Over 4 Years Through Greenhouse Gas Reduction Activities
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Sun-mi] IBK Industrial Bank announced on the 21st that it has exceeded its greenhouse gas energy target reduction goals for the fourth consecutive year.
The Greenhouse Gas Energy Target Management System is an environmental regulation system in which companies emitting a certain amount of greenhouse gases are assigned annual reduction targets by the government and are required to comply, aiming to achieve carbon neutrality.
IBK Industrial Bank implemented various greenhouse gas reduction activities such as installing solar power generation for energy saving in its headquarters building, introducing electric vehicles for business use, turning off unnecessary lights, and operating the Eco Health Way (health stairs). As a result, last year it emitted 59,554 tons CO2eq (carbon dioxide equivalent), exceeding the government-assigned target of 61,789 tons CO2eq by approximately 3.6%.
Additionally, IBK is preparing to obtain international environmental standards such as the Environmental Management System (ISO14001) and the Energy Management System (ISO50001), and plans to join the Equator Principles, which prohibit investment in projects exceeding USD 10 million that involve environmental destruction or human rights violations, by 2022.
An IBK Industrial Bank official stated, “We will continue various ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) activities to create a sustainable future as a leading carbon finance bank.”
