S-Oil Achieves 7 Million Man-Hours Without Accidents S-Oil Residual Oil Upgrading Facility

[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Dae-yeol] S-OIL announced that it has operated its plant without any fatal accidents from October 22, 2019, to the 20th of this month. This marks the company's third achievement of 7 million man-hours without accidents since its establishment.

The company stated that this was thanks to the safety-first management principle implemented by CEO Al-Katani, who took office in June 2019, and the joint accident prevention efforts by all employees and partner companies. The company’s Ulsan plant spans approximately 4.2 million square meters and is the sixth largest single refinery and petrochemical complex in the world. It processes about 670,000 barrels of crude oil per day, with around 3,000 workers performing approximately 500 tasks daily.

To ensure workplace safety, from this year, the company introduced a system that clearly distinguishes and enforces systematic responsibilities and roles for maintenance work. It requires prior assessment of work hazards and preparation of accident countermeasures. The company said, "To manage plant site safety more systematically, we plan to introduce the latest digital technologies such as wearable helmets and electronic work permits using mobile devices," adding, "By the end of next year, the world’s best safety management system is expected to be established."
