[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyewon] Doosan Mobility Innovation (DMI) announced on the 21st that it has partnered with the Dutch government agency NHN to participate in the Marine Technology Innovation Project (METIP).

NHN is a government-affiliated regional development organization that supports various activities for economic development such as business development, investment, and acquisitions in the northern Amsterdam area of the Netherlands. METIP is a four-year (2021?2024) marine technology innovation support project led by NHN, involving government, companies, and research institutions. The main themes are human resource development, hydrogen economy, and energy transition. DMI is participating in the first project, which involves developing solutions using drones.

DMI uses its SooSo drone, capable of flying for more than two hours, to deliver emergency relief supplies and other goods from energy company headquarters on land to offshore hubs located 40?60 km away, or from offshore hubs to energy facilities such as gas drilling platforms and wind turbines located at sea. It also performs ongoing missions such as search and rescue, equipment inspection, and safety monitoring.

This project proceeds in three stages: ▲utilizing existing technology (drone delivery), ▲applying technology (search and rescue, environmental monitoring), and ▲advancing technology (equipment inspection, reconnaissance). DMI plans to leverage the advantages of the SooSo drone to apply, inspect, and demonstrate various applications.

Lee Doosoon, CEO of DMI, stated, "This project conducted in the North Sea is based on the actual needs of energy companies, so if successfully completed, it is expected to greatly help promote our products." He added, "We will develop business models that apply and utilize various demonstration data as a stepping stone to enter the European market."
