[Asia Economy Reporter Park So-yeon] Glovon announced on the 20th that it has decided to jointly develop Green Science's eco-friendly microwave plasma hydrogen reformer to supply hydrogen for fuel cells used in propulsion and power generation of large vessels with Navig8, one of the world's top three tanker shipping companies.
Navig8, a global shipping company headquartered in Singapore, owns approximately 140 large tanker vessels (carrying petrochemical products and crude oil). In response to the International Maritime Organization (IMO)'s strengthened greenhouse gas regulations (aiming for a 40% reduction in greenhouse gases by 2030), it is shifting the paradigm from conventional oil-fueled ships to eco-friendly vessels.
Accordingly, Glovon will provide Green Science's patented microwave plasma technology to eco-friendly the large tanker vessels owned by Navig8, and will exclusively supply Navig8 worldwide in the maritime transport sector with the microwave plasma reformer technology necessary to separate marine fuel inside the ships into eco-friendly hydrogen.
Based on this business agreement, Glovon and Navig8 will conduct technical feasibility reviews and define commercial requirements, and will closely cooperate to install the technology onboard the vessels in a short period (including providing technical and market data related to Navig8's tankers and other vessel types, conducting Green Science's technical research, reporting results, and defining optimized technical goals).
A Glovon official stated, "Now, global consensus through greenhouse gas regulations on global warming is required, and the appropriate technology to produce hydrogen eco-friendly from various marine fuels is the microwave plasma reformer," adding, "Our hydrogen production technology, which suppresses external emissions by reusing greenhouse gases during hydrogen production at sea, aligns with the eco-friendly energy strategy of a global tanker shipping company, leading us to proceed with this related business."
