[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] The Ministry of the Interior and Safety announced on the 21st that it will hold the 5th Government Innovation Proposal Final Development Competition on Earth Day, the 22nd, under the theme "Living Together, Us" to realize carbon neutrality by 2050 with the public.

This competition will be held through three diverse programs: "Sharing Ideas," "Collaborative Development," and "Sharing Together," starting with the opening ceremony on April 22, aimed at discovering public proposals for greenhouse gas reduction measures. Various outputs such as app/web solutions, campaign planning, and institutional improvement tasks for achieving an annual 2% reduction in greenhouse gases discovered through the competition will be policy-implemented through the Government Innovation National Forum.

The opening ceremony on the 22nd, marking the start of the Final Development Competition, will be held in a talk show format under the theme "Living Together, Us ? Before It's Too Late," to build consensus on the crisis and discuss the recovery of life.

The opening ceremony will be attended by Jeon Hae-cheol, Minister of the Interior and Safety; comedian Yang Sang-guk; interpreter and broadcaster Ahn Hyun-mo; and Lee Kyung-jae, CEO of an eco-friendly social enterprise. Notably, the ceremony will take place at the Seoul Thermal Power Plant and will be broadcast live on the Ministry of the Interior and Safety’s YouTube channel for public viewing.

The panelists participating in the opening ceremony will reflect on the blue sky and life without masks, which were once taken for granted, and discuss the directions that individuals and the nation should prepare and move toward for a future with hope.

Following the opening ceremony, various programs will be conducted to spread consensus on greenhouse gas reduction measures and to discover public proposals for practical policy implementation. From April 22 to May 16, the "Sharing Ideas" program allows future generations, including elementary and middle school students, to propose their thoughts on greenhouse gas reduction through drawings, writings, and videos via the Gwanghwamun 1st Street Innovation Proposal Talk platform.

The "Collaborative Development" program, held over two days without overnight stay from May 21 to 22, is open to all citizens from elementary school students and above. It is a venue to produce tangible results on practical campaigns, institutional improvement tasks, and web or app-based technologies to reduce greenhouse gases. The "Sharing Together" program on June 5 will supplement the outputs from the Collaborative Development program through mentoring by related ministries or experts and present the final results.

Among the various solutions submitted through the Sharing Ideas, Collaborative Development, and Sharing Together programs, outstanding proposers (teams) will be awarded ministerial prizes and others at a separate awards ceremony on June 17, Desertification Prevention Day. Detailed competition information and application forms can be found on the participation community board at 'Gwanghwamun 1st Street (www.gwanghwamoon1st.go.kr)'.

Minister Jeon Hae-cheol said, "The Government Innovation Proposal Final Development Competition is a valuable opportunity to overcome social challenges together through public participation, which is the driving force of government innovation," adding, "I hope that through the 5th Government Innovation Proposal Final Development Competition, many citizens, especially future generations, will build consensus on carbon neutrality and create concrete action plans."
