Galleria Department Store will hold the 'Michael Scoggins Exhibition' at the luxury hall from the 23rd of this month to the 13th of next month.
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Chun-han] Galleria Department Store announced on the 21st that it will hold the ‘Michael Scoggins Special Exhibition’ at the luxury pavilion from the 23rd of this month to the 13th of next month. This exhibition is part of the ‘Gangnam Art Walking: Love is Love’ art campaign, co-hosted by Gangnam District Office and Galleria. Gangnam Art Walking is a cultural and artistic experience project enjoyed like a stroll through the city.
Galleria, in collaboration with G Gallery, has decorated the entire luxury pavilion like a single art museum, showcasing works by the American contemporary artist Michael Scoggins throughout the store. This time, Michael Scoggins presents works inspired by changes in daily life experienced after being unable to work during the COVID-19 pandemic. As a result of his work over the past six months, the artist also used paints he had not used for 20 years.
Michael Scoggins is famous for expressing contemporary social and political issues as if they were drawings in a child’s diary. Since his first solo exhibition held in New York in 2004, he has been widely loved in the art world, and his works can currently be seen at the Museum of Modern Art in New York and the Hammer Museum, among others.
To commemorate this event, canvas bags, postcards, stickers, and more, produced for the exhibition, will be given away through various events during the exhibition period. A meaningful donation event will also be held, where a portion of the proceeds from works sold during the exhibition will be donated to low-income children in Gangnam District.
A Galleria official said, “We will continue to plan and develop new projects with the local community to consistently present differentiated cultural content to local residents.”
