Geumcheon-gu Opens Weekend Farmer Ecological Experience Learning Center at Anyangcheon

[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Geumcheon-gu (Mayor Yuseonghun) announced that it opened the "Eco-friendly Weekend Farmer Ecological Experience Learning Center" prepared at Anyangcheon on the 17th, allowing urban residents to directly cultivate and eat crops.

About 400 people, including Geumcheon-gu Mayor Yuseonghun and family residents, attended the opening ceremony that day.

The opening ceremony was conducted using a plot odd-even system according to the COVID-19 level 2 quarantine measures, where those assigned odd-numbered plots participated at 10 a.m. and 11 a.m., and even-numbered participants at 2 p.m. and 3 p.m.

On the day of the opening of the weekend ecological learning center, the district provided participating residents with 30 lettuce seedlings, 10 chamnamul seedlings, and 1 trowel, and placed on-site helpers to guide cultivation techniques.

A resident who received a garden plot said, "This year, a weekend ecological learning center was created nearby, so I can exercise at Anyangcheon every day and look forward to the fun of personally cultivating and eating food from the garden."

The district established an eco-friendly weekend farmer ecological experience learning center with a total area of 3,000㎡ on the riverside between Doksan Pedestrian Bridge and Anyangcheon Crosswalk Bridge in Doksan 1-dong Anyangcheon branch section. A total of 250 plots, each 10㎡ in size, were created, and 250 residents were allocated one plot each through a public lottery held in March.

Additionally, last year, the district created a pilot apartment garden at Doksan Jugong 14 Complex. The garden consists of 44 plots, each 12㎡ in size, and was allocated to residents of Doksan Jugong 14 Complex apartments through a lottery.

Geumcheon-gu Mayor Yuseonghun said, "During this time when leisure activities and gatherings are restricted due to COVID-19, I hope that Geumcheon residents will plant and nurture happiness with their families and neighbors at the Anyangcheon Ecological Experience Learning Center and apartment gardens established in our district, and enjoy the joy of a bountiful harvest."
