[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Junhyung] The detention period of Kim Taehyun (24), who was sent to the prosecution on charges of murdering three women in an apartment in Nowon-gu, Seoul, has been extended.
On the 19th, according to the prosecution, the Criminal Division 2 of the Seoul Northern District Prosecutors' Office (Chief Prosecutor Im Jongpil) reviewed the case records related to Kim Taehyun and determined that further investigation was necessary, and with the court's permission, extended the detention period by ten days. Kim's first detention period, which began on the 9th of this month when he was sent to the prosecution, expired on the 18th, and the second detention period started on the 19th.
The prosecution must release a detained suspect if they are not indicted within ten days. If additional investigation is needed, the detention period can be extended once for ten days.
Kim is currently incarcerated at the Seoul Eastern Detention Center. Due to concerns about COVID-19 infection, he is being investigated by the prosecution while wearing protective clothing.
