Haman-gun Implements Silage Support Project for Forage Production

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Saeyan] On the 19th, Haman-gun, Gyeongnam announced that it will promote the 'Silage Manufacturing Cost Support Project for Forage Production' to strengthen competitiveness in the livestock industry.

Silage refers to forage crops with high moisture content that are dried and tightly wrapped in multiple layers of white round plastic, then fermented with lactic acid in an oxygen-free environment to produce juicy forage. It is used as feed for herbivorous livestock such as Korean cattle (Hanwoo) and dairy cows.

The 'Silage Manufacturing Cost Support Project for Forage Production' is a program that supports various production costs such as manufacturing plastic, nets, fermenting agents, fuel, and depreciation costs when farmers manufacture silage using forage.

The support targets are farmers, agricultural management entities, and producer organizations that directly cultivate forage crops and manufacture silage.

The county aims to produce 10,000 tons of silage with a project budget of 550 million KRW this year.

After various verification processes, 60,000 KRW per ton (90% subsidy, 10% self-payment) will be supported.

From this year, the support limit and payment method have changed from the previous method of calculating total weight through sample weighing and supporting project costs per ton to a method that supports according to production volume per cultivation area.

The county plans to finalize the cultivation area in mid-May after conducting a sowing verification survey based on the forage crop cultivation site details received at the responsible eup/myeon offices.

In addition, the county intends to propose a budget of 400 million KRW for silage manufacturing costs and other expenses for the establishment of a forage wide-area specialized complex (450 hectares) in the 2nd supplementary budget for additional support.

A county official said, "Through this project, we will expand the production and use of high-quality domestic forage silage to alleviate difficulties faced by livestock farmers due to rising imported forage prices and establish a stable forage production base."
