Four New-Generation Magicians Present Non-Face-to-Face Magic Show 'Collage'

Team Collage presented a non-face-to-face magic show called ‘Collage’ over two days, April 9 and 10, via the online platform Zoom.

Team Collage consists of four next-generation magicians: Lee Yeollin, Kim Jaesang, Han Jinhyung, and Park Junwoo. ‘Collage,’ which means forming new human relationships in the post-COVID era through a new method, is an interactive untact magic performance. The audience participates in the magic, and the choices of both the audience and the magicians come together to complete the show like a collage painting. Additionally, the dazzling visuals and the scene where all the audience members draw a single card following the magician’s instructions during the performance sent chills down viewers’ spines. Especially, near the end of the show, the scene where the picture chosen by the audience and the card chosen by the magician form a collage painting became a hot topic.

Audience members who watched the performance said, “I was disappointed not to be able to visit the theater due to COVID-19, but I was glad to enjoy a magic show at home,” and expressed enthusiastic reactions, saying, “It was a fresh experience as if the magician was performing just for me right in front of my eyes.” Moreover, the show was viewed and participated in not only domestically but also in various countries such as France, the United Kingdom, and Italy.

Lee Yeollin, the magician who planned this magic show, is known as a Korean magician challenging the European magic scene with busking performances at Place Mars in Paris, France, and the Opera House, as well as gala shows like ‘La Soiree des Talents.’ In addition, magician Kim Jaesang proved his skills by ranking in the Top 10 in the global online magic competition (Cyber Magic Superstar) organized by world-renowned magicians.

Magician Han Jinhyung has attracted attention through various activities such as magic prop production, invited performances at various domestic hotels, and participation in conventions. Also, magician Park Junwoo, who won first place at the Ulsan International Magic Competition and the Alexander International Magic Competition, is scheduled to participate in the FISM Asia qualifiers this November.

The four magicians who participated in the performance stated, “The prolonged COVID-19 pandemic has dealt a severe blow to the performing arts industry, causing it to shrink, so we felt the need to break the existing mold and take on new challenges.” They added, “We hope that untact performance culture like ‘Collage’ will become popular through this opportunity, and we want to contribute to the development of the performing arts industry with magic shows that reflect trends suitable for the post-COVID era, such as untact and the metaverse.”
