Korea Student Aid Foundation Holds Online Launch Ceremony for Social Leader University Student Mentoring Program

300 Mentors and 2,646 Mentees Participate
Monthly Team Mentoring and Capacity Building Program

Lee Jung-woo, Chairman of the Korea Student Aid Foundation, is delivering a greeting at the 12th Social Leader University Student Mentoring Online Kick-off Ceremony for 2021, held online at Nine Studio, Kookmin University on the 17th.

[Asia Economy Reporter Han Jinju] The Korea Student Aid Foundation held the 'Social Leader University Student Mentoring Online Launch Ceremony' on the 17th at Kookmin University Nine Studio, gathering 300 social leaders and over 2,600 mentees.

To prevent the spread of COVID-19, the launch ceremony was conducted online with simultaneous access. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education Yoo Eun-hye and Lee Kyung-sook, the inaugural chairperson of the Korea Student Aid Foundation, encouraged the 12th cohort of mentors and mentees starting mentoring remotely despite the difficult circumstances caused by COVID-19 through a video message.

The Social Leader University Student Mentoring program, operated by the Korea Student Aid Foundation for 12 years, supports one mentor with professional knowledge and social experience and eight university or graduate student mentees to strengthen character and capabilities. Among the 300 mentors participating are ▲Kang Chang-ho, head professor at Dongguk University Graduate School of Public Administration ▲Kim Sang-ho, former president of POSCO Engineering & Construction ▲Kim Jong-hoon, chairman of HanmiGlobal ▲Kim Cheol-min, CEO of Wirobo ▲Na Deok-ju, former BG head of Doosan Infracore Sancha, etc.

Lee Jung-woo, chairman of the Korea Student Aid Foundation, said, "Young and anxious youths need help from life seniors. Like the Chinese proverb ‘Noma Jiji (老馬之智)’, which tells how an experienced old horse leads the way to safely rescue when lost, acquiring much wisdom from life seniors will enable them to live a great life."

The special lecture by a notable figure was conducted by Lee So-young, director at Microsoft, under the theme "Have you ever contributed to someone else's success?" Director Lee emphasized that community leadership, which widely shares one’s knowledge and experience to help the growth of the community, is the capability our youth must have in this changed era.

Additionally, Professor Choi Jae-bung of Sungkyunkwan University gave a lecture on preparing for the digital transformation era and the future under the theme "Three things you must change in the Phono Sapiens era," and Kwon In-ah, CEO of WithHRD, delivered a competency lecture on "Communication for Mentoring in the Non-face-to-face Era," sharing online mentoring methodologies.
