From April to October, 'Visiting Shulrun Workshops' Held at 13 Elementary, Middle, and High Schools in the Region
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Gwanak-gu (Mayor Park Junhee) will conduct the "Visiting Shulren Training Sessions" at 13 elementary, middle, and high schools in the district until October to support physical activities for students with disabilities.
The training sessions are part of the "Gwanak-gu Student Harmony (Shulren) Sports Support Project," proposed as a resident participation budget project this year. It aims to provide students with disabilities the opportunity to experience a new sport, fostering a spirit of challenge and a sense of purpose.
Shulren is a traditional Dutch game where players use thirty 5cm diameter discs (pucks) to score points by placing them into four scoring holes. It is a game that people of all ages and genders can enjoy.
Since it is not a rough sport, it allows active participation from people with disabilities and the elderly, helping to improve concentration and coordination.
Previously, the district prioritized distributing Shulren sports equipment to schools that applied for the training sessions, enabling students to engage in physical activities during breaks.
The "Visiting Training Sessions" will be conducted from April to October by certified Shulren instructors registered with the Korea Shulren Association, who will visit each school twice to explain the game and its rules and conduct practical training.
The training sessions are open not only to students with disabilities but also to non-disabled students, allowing all students to participate and enjoy the sport together.
In November, the "Gwanak-gu Student Harmony Shulren Competition" will be held to provide students with diverse experiences and opportunities for challenge.
In case of prolonged COVID-19 conditions, considering the nature of the sport that allows individual matches and mask-wearing, the competition will be adapted to a socially distanced format and conducted as an untact inter-school tournament.
Mayor Park Junhee said, "I hope this visiting training session will be a new experience and opportunity for challenge for students who are going through a more difficult time than ever due to COVID-19," and added, "We will continue to develop and expand various programs for the growth and development of students."
