[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Songpa-gu (Mayor Park Seong-su) has signed a "Business Agreement for the Establishment of Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure" to facilitate the smooth distribution of eco-friendly vehicles in response to fine dust and climate change crises, and will expand and install "outlet-type electric vehicle chargers (200 units)."

On the 12th, the district signed a business agreement with Seoul Energy Corporation to establish eco-friendly electric vehicle charging infrastructure. The agreement was conducted non-face-to-face to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Through this agreement, Songpa-gu will identify installation sites for "outlet-type chargers" in apartment complexes and public buildings, while Seoul Energy Corporation will provide approximately 200 outlet-type chargers free of charge and will be responsible for installation and aftercare.

The "outlet-type charger" is an innovative charger technology that enables recognition of electric vehicle load patterns on a 220V outlet, preventing electricity theft from electric vehicles and allowing measurement of electricity usage.

Unlike the existing "stand-type chargers," which require trenching and conduit work to install wiring underground, the "outlet-type charger" can be easily installed by simply replacing the existing 220V outlet in parking spaces with an Internet of Things (IoT)-based outlet.

Accordingly, the district plans to complete the installation of 200 "outlet-type chargers" within the region by the first half of this year. Including the 541 stand-type chargers already installed in the area, Songpa-gu will have the largest number of electric vehicle charging facilities among Seoul’s autonomous districts.

Additionally, parking spaces equipped with outlet-type electric vehicle chargers will allow both general vehicles and electric vehicles to park, which is expected to help resolve complaints related to obstruction of electric vehicle charging.

Park Seong-su, Mayor of Songpa-gu, stated, "The establishment of charging infrastructure has become the most important prerequisite for promoting the distribution of electric vehicles, which is highly effective in reducing fine dust and improving air quality. Songpa-gu will continue to cooperate with related organizations such as Seoul Energy Corporation to create a favorable environment for the use of eco-friendly electric vehicles by expanding electric vehicle charging stations."
