‘It’s Fun to Complete the “Walking Alone” Mission’

Yangcheon-gu Conducts 'Small Walking Challenge' to Promote Health

‘It’s Fun to Complete the “Walking Alone” Mission’

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Yangcheon-gu (Mayor Kim Soo-young) Public Health Center is conducting the ‘Soso Walking Challenge,’ which allows residents to maintain their health while practicing social distancing to prevent COVID-19.

Following last year’s non-face-to-face walking campaign, the district selected popular local areas this year and developed seven walking-friendly courses. To make walking more enjoyable, a different mission is provided each month as part of the walking challenge.

Each month features a unique theme: ▲April ‘Walking Alone’ ▲May ‘Walkgo, Smilego, Snapgo’ ▲June ‘7-Day Promise’ ▲July-August ‘Gentle Night Stroll’ ▲September ‘Village Tour Ssaksseuri’ ▲October ‘Together Walking’ ▲November ‘Night Stroll Along Anyangcheon,’ with various stories incorporated into the walking campaigns and challenges.

The monthly themed missions are announced on the Kakao Channel ‘Soso Walking.’ After walking alone on one of the district’s seven ‘walking-friendly paths’ according to the monthly theme and completing the mission, participants receive small physical activity-related items or e-gift coupons.

To participate, install the ‘WalkOn’ app on a smartphone, join the Yangcheon-gu community, verify your step count, add the Kakao Channel ‘Soso Walking’ as a friend, and upload a photo certifying the mission.

In April, the ‘Walking Alone’ challenge is underway, and in May, a ‘Walkgo Smilego Snapgo’ walking challenge using Sinjeongsan, a healing space in the city center, is being prepared through collaboration between autonomous districts.

The Sinjeongsan Soso Walking Challenge involves walking alone along Sinjeongsan, located on the border between Yangcheon-gu and Guro-gu, finding locations listed on the mission sheet, taking mission photos, and submitting them as proof.

Kim Soo-young, Mayor of Yangcheon-gu, stated, “Living a healthy and safe life has become more important than ever due to COVID-19,” and added, “We will actively develop health promotion projects like the ‘Soso Walking Challenge’ that allow people to maintain health while practicing social distancing in daily life.”
