[Asia Economy Reporter Seoyoung Kwon] A taxi driver accused of forcibly molesting a person with a disability has been sentenced to imprisonment.
On the 18th, the Criminal Division 1 of the Western Branch of the Busan District Court (Chief Judge Jinhyeok Lee) announced that male taxi driver A, who was charged with forcibly molesting a person with a disability, was sentenced to 1 year and 6 months in prison with a 3-year probation period. He was also ordered to attend 40 hours of sexual violence treatment lectures.
A was brought to trial on charges of forcibly molesting B, a woman in her 20s with a severe intellectual disability, in August of last year. A had a conversation with B, who was a passenger, and B’s dog. Afterwards, under the pretext of checking on B’s dog, he entered the victim’s home and forcibly molested B, who was lying face down while he said he would apply a pain relief patch.
The court stated, "A knew that B was a person with a disability and followed her into her home to commit the crime, causing severe humiliation to the victim." However, considering that A admitted to the crime, showed remorse, and reached an amicable settlement with the victim, the court explained the reasons for the sentencing.
