4 Additional COVID-19 Cases Confirmed in Gwangju: 2 from Democratic Party Damyang Office, 2 Unidentified

According to Gwangju Metropolitan City on the 18th, four people tested positive on that day and were classified as cases 2285 to 2288.

Two of them are related to the Democratic Party Damyang office (Damyang acquaintances gathering), and two are under investigation for their infection routes.

Cases 2285 and 2288 are related to the Damyang acquaintances gathering. Case 2259, confirmed positive on the 15th, had contact on the 7th with Jeonnam cases 988 and 989, employees of National Assembly member Lee Gae-ho's Damyang office, and so far 17 people in the Gwangju area have tested positive.

Among them, 14 are from Jeonnam, 2 from Jeonbuk, and 1 from Seoul. Case 2258, initially under investigation for infection route, was also confirmed to have overlapped movements on the 9th with Jeonnam case 989, so the four related cases (including 2258) are classified as part of the Damyang acquaintances gathering.

Cases 2286 and 2287 visited screening clinics after showing COVID-19-like symptoms and tested positive. Their infection routes are under investigation.

Meanwhile, after visiting Sacheon, Gyeongnam the previous day and overlapping movements at a restaurant with a confirmed case, cases 2276 and 2277, along with their child case 2282, tested positive. As a result, approximately 1,400 students at an elementary school in Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju, attended by case 2282, underwent comprehensive testing.

The results are expected to be announced in the afternoon, and if additional cases are confirmed, health authorities plan to reclassify contacts and conduct further in-depth epidemiological investigations.
