Songpa Mobile Cluster Phase 1 Project
[Asia Economy Reporter Cha Min-young] The Ministry of Science and ICT announced on the 18th that it will begin a design competition from the 19th for the first phase of the expansion of the Central Radio Management Office (Junggwanso) as part of the ‘Songpa Mobile Cluster’ being developed on the site of the Central Radio Management Office in Songpa-gu, Seoul.
The Songpa Mobile Cluster is a project to develop the Junggwanso site into a national security and related industry hub in the radio wave and cyber fields, increasing the utilization of aging state-owned property and promoting regional development and job creation. A total project cost of 547.8 billion KRW will be invested to develop a complex business district with a total floor area of 177,000㎡. The project plan was finalized in July 2018 through the resolution of the State Property Policy Committee.
In the first phase, the aging Junggwanso building will be expanded first, and in the second phase, public office facilities such as the Internet Intrusion Response Center, startup residential support facilities, and general office facilities including spaces for ICT-related startups will be constructed.
The expansion of Junggwanso will be carried out on a scale of 14,211㎡ with 3 basement floors and 6 above-ground floors. To modernize radio wave management facilities, the Radio Wave Integrated Control Center, measurement equipment performance inspection rooms, and computer rooms will be expanded and constructed. Additionally, a 1,500㎡ Radio Wave Playground will be established, allowing small and medium enterprises and research institutes to freely conduct radio wave tests for drones, autonomous vehicles, and more in a shielded space.
A Ministry of Science and ICT official emphasized, “The design competition for the first phase expansion of the Junggwanso building is an important step for the establishment of the Songpa Mobile Cluster,” adding, “Once the Songpa Mobile Cluster is completed, national security functions will be strengthened, and it will contribute to the innovative growth and job creation of small and medium-sized ventures related to radio waves.”
The design competition for the Junggwanso expansion will be held for 60 days starting from the 19th on the Korea ON-line E-Procurement System (KONEPS), with the design firm to be selected in June. Companies interested in the design competition can obtain related information through the KONEPS website or the Korea Asset Management Corporation website.
