According to the government and industry on the 18th, the five power generation companies?Nambu, Namdong, Jungbu, Seobu, and Dongseo Power?held their respective shareholders' meetings from the 14th to the 16th to decide on new presidential candidates.
Nambu Power appointed Lee Seungwoo, former head of the National Institute of Technology and Standards, as the final candidate. Lee entered public service through the 27th Technical Examination and served as Director of Product Safety Policy at the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy's National Institute of Technology and Standards, System Industry Policy Officer, and was the head of the National Institute of Technology and Standards from 2018 until February this year.
Kim Hoecheon, former vice president of Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO), was named the final candidate for president of Namdong Power. Kim joined KEPCO in 1985 and held key positions including Budget Director, Planning Director, Secretary Office Chief, Management Headquarters Director, and Vice President of Management Support.
Jungbu Power selected Kim Hobin, Vice President of Technology and Safety from within the company, as the final presidential candidate. Kim joined KEPCO in 1991 and has served as Head of the Technical Expert Team in the Power Generation Department, PM of the Construction Department, and Director of the National Agenda Planning and Promotion Team at Jungbu Power since 2004.
Park Hyungdeok, former vice president of KEPCO, was appointed as the presidential candidate for Seobu Power. He joined KEPCO in 1985 and held positions such as Purchasing Director, Sales Director, Public Relations Director, Head of Gyeonggi Regional Headquarters, and Planning Headquarters Director.
Dongseo Power nominated Kim Youngmoon, former Commissioner of the Korea Customs Service, as the final presidential candidate. Kim passed the 34th Judicial Examination and served as Director of Crime Prevention Planning at the Ministry of Justice, Head of the Advanced Crime Investigation Division 1 at the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office, and Head of Criminal Division 1 at the Daegu District Prosecutors' Office Western Branch. He worked as a lawyer from 2015, served as Commissioner of the Korea Customs Service from 2017 to 2019, joined the Democratic Party, ran in the 21st general election, and recently served as the regional chairman for Ulsan Ulju-gun.
These candidates are expected to officially assume their presidential roles around the end of this month after the Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy's recommendation and the presidential appointment process.
Earlier, Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power held a shareholders' meeting at the end of last month and approved the reappointment of current President Jeong Jaehoon. President Jeong is the only one among major power generation public enterprises, including KEPCO, to be reappointed.
Meanwhile, Jeong Seungil, former Vice Minister of the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, is reportedly virtually confirmed as the president of KEPCO. KEPCO will notify multiple presidential candidates to KEPCO after review and resolution by the Public Institution Management Committee (Gongunwi), and KEPCO will decide the final candidate through its board of directors and shareholders' meeting.
