[Asia Economy Reporter Minji Lee] Ahn Cheol-soo, leader of the People Party, showed a cautious stance regarding the integration with the People Power Party, saying, "Various opinions are emerging among party members."
On the 17th, after holding a meeting with party members from the Chungcheong region in Cheongju, Chungbuk, Ahn stated, "We are gathering opinions from party members about the direction the party should take after the April 7 by-elections."
He explained, "While some support the integration, there are many concerns, and some expressed that now is not the right time. All the opinions heard today will be comprehensively organized and finally discussed at the Supreme Council." It was reported that about 50 People Party members from Chungbuk and Chungnam attended the meeting.
Ahn will continue holding meetings with party members in Gwangju on the 18th. The People Party's nationwide provincial party member meetings are scheduled until the 23rd.
Earlier, on the 16th, the People Power Party decided at a party members' meeting to continue the integration process with the People Party.
