[Asia Economy Reporter Jeong Dong-hoon] A man in his 30s who killed his biological father and fled was sentenced to 10 years in prison by the court.

The Criminal Division 11 of the Seoul Western District Court (Presiding Judge Moon Byung-chan) sentenced Park Mo (32), who was tried on charges of killing his biological father and fleeing (parricide), to 10 years in prison on the 16th.

The court stated, "The act of killing one's father is an antisocial crime that cannot be tolerated for any reason," and "Considering other evidence comprehensively, it has been reasonably proven that the defendant killed the victim with a blunt weapon."

The court added the reason for sentencing, saying, "The defendant committed the crime in a state of mental illness with delusions of persecution and diminished mental capacity, and is currently in a condition where normal thinking is difficult."

Park killed his father with a weapon and a blunt object at his father's house in Mapo-gu, Seoul, on August 23 last year, fled, and was arrested in Pohang, Gyeongbuk.

It was investigated that he harbored resentment toward his father, believing that his father was secretly monitoring him with hidden cameras under the direction of a government agency.

Park immediately announced that he would appeal after hearing the sentence.
