"Fukushima Contaminated Water, Responding with Priority on Public Health and Safety"
[Sejong=Asia Economy Reporter Kwon Haeyoung] On the 16th, Park Junyoung, the current Vice Minister of the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries (MOF), who was nominated as the new Minister of Oceans and Fisheries, is regarded as a 'planning expert' who has led major policy formulation across the marine, fisheries, and logistics sectors. He has been assigned the role of ensuring the smooth continuation of national tasks such as preparing for the discharge of contaminated water from the Fukushima nuclear power plant in Japan and rebuilding the marine industry.
Park, who began his public service career by passing the 35th Administrative Examination, has held various positions including Director of the Fisheries and Aquaculture Policy Division at MOF, Minister-Counselor at the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in the United Kingdom, MOF spokesperson, and Director General of Planning and Coordination. He is recognized for his insight into the marine sector, excellent problem-solving and work management skills, as well as his international sensibility.
Park stated, "Regarding the Fukushima nuclear power plant contaminated water issue, under the government's consistent response policy, we will prioritize the health and safety of the public and respond thoroughly." He added, "We will ensure that key marine and fisheries industries such as shipping, ports, and fisheries successfully overcome the crisis and regain global competitiveness." He further emphasized, "I will do my best to create a ministry open to the public by closely communicating with the field, practicing proactive administration, eliminating policy blind spots, and paying attention to difficulties first."
An MOF official said, "He has a style of selecting and focusing on tasks according to their importance and urgency, handling his responsibilities proactively and timely." The official added, "He is not only highly professional and insightful about overall marine and fisheries affairs but also has abundant experience in organizational management tasks such as personnel, organization, and public relations, making him well-suited to handle pressing issues and organizational management." The official also noted, "He communicates openly with staff through clear judgment and principled words and actions, earning strong internal trust."
