Gyeongju City Opens Urban Regeneration University... Resident-Led Development of Seonggeon-dong Food Culture Street

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Jae-ho] Gyeongju City announced on the 16th that it has opened the '2021 Gyeongju City Urban Regeneration University' at Seonggeon-dong Resident Autonomy Center, focusing on the creation of a global food and culture specialized street.


The opening ceremony held on the 13th was attended by 24 residents interested in local revitalization, including Ahn Taek-soon, Chairman of the Seonggeon-dong Resident Autonomy Committee, Kim Byung-yong, Executive Vice President of the Seonggeon-dong Sports Association, and Kim Wan-ho, Captain of the Seonggeon-dong Volunteer Crime Prevention Unit.


This lecture series will be held 11 times in total until June 22. It will include a pilot operation of a flea market involving students and local residents, as well as explorations of alley commercial districts in other regions.


Lee Dae-woo, Director of the Gyeongju City Urban Regeneration Project Headquarters, said, "I hope that local residents will enhance their understanding of urban regeneration and develop their capabilities based on the specialized Urban Regeneration University program in Seonggeon-dong, becoming a driving force to lead urban regeneration on their own."
