Pulmuone Introduces 'Smart Glasses' at Domestic and Overseas Production Sites

[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Hye-seon] Pulmuone has officially introduced Smart Glasses at its domestic and overseas production bases, embarking on the establishment of a global digital system.

On the 16th, Pulmuone announced that it has completed the establishment of a digital smart factory operating system across all its global production bases by applying Smart Glasses in various ways such as remote equipment inspection, on-site troubleshooting, internal technical exchanges, and educational material utilization.

Smart Glasses are wearable HMD (head-mounted display) devices in the form of glasses that allow users to record videos and communicate in real-time while keeping their hands free. They have become a useful tool for implementing ‘non-face-to-face’ interactions, which have become widespread across industries due to COVID-19. Overseas, McDonald’s has been a pioneer in adopting them for store management and cooking training, and recently, more companies in Korea are considering their introduction.

Last year, Pulmuone began non-face-to-face inspections using Smart Glasses at manufacturing sites to enhance product quality and food safety management. Alongside this, the company explored ways to implement a ‘digital smart factory’ mediated by Smart Glasses and recently applied them in various fields such as on-site management and response, history management, and technical exchanges. As a result, sites, engineers, and managers are connected through Smart Glasses, facilitating active mutual exchanges.

Smart Glasses act as the ‘eyes’ of the site, allowing managers to vividly experience the site without visiting in person, overcoming spatial and temporal constraints and strengthening on-site competitiveness. Pulmuone has introduced Smart Glasses at its business locations including production sites, factories, and logistics centers to improve operational efficiency.

Additionally, integrated data management has become possible through the use of an internal cloud. Through integrated data, information on goal setting, production, and technology can be comprehensively checked.

Pulmuone plans to further introduce Smart Glasses for use at its overseas factories. This will connect the four major bases of Pulmuone’s factories in Korea, the United States, Japan, and China, enabling the sharing of know-how. Even with overseas business trips restricted due to COVID-19, managers will be able to closely observe site conditions and communicate in real-time, establishing a global digital network.

Moreover, the goal is to implement augmented reality (AR) functionality within the third quarter of this year.
