Gwangjin-gu Opens Vaccination Center... Vaccine Inoculation Begins

[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] The Gwangjin-gu District Office (Mayor Kim Seon-gap) COVID-19 Vaccination Center opened on the 15th and began full-scale operations.

The Gwangjin-gu COVID-19 Vaccination Center is set up at Jayang Gymnasium and operates on weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. starting April 15 until the completion of vaccinations.

The second quarter vaccinations target approximately 17,000 people (based on consent as of April 8), including about 15,000 elderly aged 75 and older (born on or before December 31, 1946) and about 1,200 workers and residents of elderly care facilities.

Vaccinations are administered in order according to guidance from the local community service centers, with up to 600 people vaccinated per day.

Additionally, for the convenience of residents, shuttle buses to the vaccination center run every 30 minutes from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., departing from in front of each community service center and nearby main roads.

The medical staff consists of one team capable of vaccinating 600 people per day, including 4 doctors, 8 nurses, and 2 emergency medical technicians, with plans to expand to three teams in the second half of the year.

Furthermore, to prepare for emergencies, the Gwangjin Fire Station will provide nurses, emergency medical technicians, and ambulances, and will cooperate with Konkuk University Hospital to ensure immediate response.

The district plans to conduct full disinfection daily after the vaccination center closes, conduct temperature checks and hand sanitization at the entrance and reception desk, and prioritize safety by having medical staff wear face shields and protective clothing.

In addition, police will be stationed during the day and military units at night to guard the center.

Kim Seon-gap, Mayor of Gwangjin-gu, stated, “Herd immunity can be formed only when more than 70% of the population is vaccinated, making Gwangjin-gu a safe area from COVID-19,” and added, “The district will promote vaccination to be conducted first ‘safely’ and second ‘quickly.’”
