Subsidy Applications for 254 Hydrogen Cars Received This Year
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Jinju City in Gyeongnam announced on the 15th that it has built and held a completion ceremony for the first hydrogen charging station in western Gyeongnam and Jinju City's first hydrogen charging station.
The event was attended by Jinju Mayor Jo Gyu-il, Nakdong River Basin Environmental Office Chief Lee Ho-jung, Jinju City Council Chairman Lee Sang-young, and Korea Gas Technology Corporation Vice President Jo Yong-don, who constructed the hydrogen charging station.
The Jinju hydrogen charging station, located in Panmun-dong near the Seojinju Interchange, was built with an investment of 3.16 billion KRW (2 billion KRW from the provincial government and 1.16 billion KRW from the city government). It has a charging capacity of 59 kg per hour, allowing 140 hydrogen vehicles to use it daily.
With the completion of the first hydrogen charging station, the city expects the distribution of eco-friendly hydrogen vehicles to gain momentum.
This year, the city plans to support purchase subsidies for 254 hydrogen vehicles and is currently accepting applications. The subsidy per vehicle is 33.1 million KRW.
Additionally, various tax benefits such as acquisition tax and automobile tax reductions, as well as benefits like free use of city public parking lots and a 50% discount on highway tolls, are provided.
The city aims to expand support and distribute 5,000 eco-friendly hydrogen vehicles by 2025.
The construction of this hydrogen charging station is expected to serve as a stepping stone to expand the distribution of eco-friendly hydrogen vehicles while improving convenience for residents of western Gyeongnam who previously had no hydrogen charging stations and citizens with a high preference for eco-friendly hydrogen vehicles.
Mayor Jo stated, “Using hydrogen, a clean energy source, as vehicle fuel instead of carbon energy sources that emit greenhouse gases will greatly contribute to reducing fine dust,” and added, “We will do our best to open an era of popularization of eco-friendly hydrogen vehicles in the clear and clean city of Jinju and prepare for the future society.”
