[Photo] Oh Seung-rok, Mayor of Nowon-gu, Attends Opening Ceremony of Yerum Art School and Nowon Lifelong Education Center for Developmentally Disabled

[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] On the 15th at 10:30 AM, Oh Seung-rok, Mayor of Nowon District, attended the opening ceremony of Yerum Arts School and the Nowon Lifelong Education Center for People with Developmental Disabilities.

Yerum Arts School is an alternative education entrusted institution for adolescents with borderline intelligence. It started with a middle school in 2015, added a high school in 2016, and an elementary school in 2018, currently educating 53 students.

The Nowon Lifelong Education Center for People with Developmental Disabilities was established in 2016 as the first nationwide center to support the independent lives of adults with developmental disabilities.

The district remodeled the former Duksung Women's University dormitory (44-47 Dongil-ro 250-gil, Sanggye 1-dong), designating the basement and first floor as the Lifelong Education Center for People with Developmental Disabilities, and the second and third floors for Yerum Arts School.

The event was attended by Mayor Oh Seung-rok, members of the National Assembly, city councilors, Lee Myeon-jae, chairman of the Duksung Academy school foundation, Ji Woo-young, CEO of DTS Happiness Deulgona, parents, and others. The ceremony began with pre-event performances by the Seongmin Welfare Center's 'Great Harmony Orchestra,' Jaeju Gas Nana, and the Diplex Ballet Company, followed by progress reports, Yerum Arts School students' performance of 'Hollo Arirang,' the Osaeksil ceremony's congratulatory performance, congratulatory speeches, ribbon-cutting, and facility tours.

Mayor Oh Seung-rok said, “I sincerely congratulate Yerum Arts School and the Nowon Lifelong Education Center for People with Developmental Disabilities on their new start in a natural environment at the foot of Suraksan Mountain,” adding, “We will continue to strive so that people with disabilities can live happier and more independent lives in the local community.”
