Jeonnam Province and Korea Journalists Association Join Hands to Eradicate Fake News

[Muan=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Jeonnam Province and the Korea Journalists Association have signed a 'Business Agreement to Reject Fake News' and agreed to join forces to create a fair society through transparent administrative operations and accurate information delivery.

The agreement ceremony held at Jeonnam Provincial Office was attended by Kim Young-rok, Governor of Jeonnam Province, Kim Dong-hoon, President of the Korea Journalists Association, and Choi Kwon-il, President of the Gwangju-Jeonnam Journalists Association.

This agreement was promoted to prevent the side effects of fake news spreading as anyone can easily access and produce information due to the development of information and communication technology.

To this end, Jeonnam Province decided to disclose administrative information transparently, provide sufficient materials to prevent erroneous reports, and support legitimate coverage and reporting.

The Korea Journalists Association pledged to take the lead in rejecting fake news by writing accurate and fair articles, refraining from writing articles based on unverified information, and delivering correct information on major provincial government issues.

Kim Dong-hoon, President of the Korea Journalists Association, said, “I appreciate that Jeonnam Province is transparently disclosing information to satisfy the residents' right to know,” adding, “Since the groups most harmed by fake news include government agencies such as local governments and healthy media workers, let us join forces to reject fake news.”

Governor Kim Young-rok stated, “Because fake news is related to the daily lives of the people, it is important to deliver accurate and correct information through fact-checking by media outlets with self-purification capabilities from a human rights protection perspective,” and added, “Jeonnam Province will work with the Korea Journalists Association to eradicate fake news and help improve the media environment.”
