That afternoon, Lee posted on Facebook, "After completing eight days of self-quarantine, I am going outside," adding, "I will devote all my efforts to helping the Democratic Party regain the trust of the people through reflection and reform."

He said, "While staying at home, I called lawmakers and party members who worked together during the April 7 by-elections to express my gratitude and apologies," and added, "I felt ashamed to make such calls since I failed to meet expectations and support. However, many people instead comforted and encouraged both the Democratic Party and me."

Lee also conveyed, "Many advised that policies aimed at the people should be more carefully refined and that we must revive livelihoods to make our government successful," and "They advised me to better understand the people's feelings reflected in the election results."

He emphasized, "The history of the Democratic Party is the history of democracy in the Republic of Korea," calling it "a party that ultimately triumphed over countless sacrifices of predecessors and numerous defeats."

He continued, "The Democratic Party has produced three proud presidents, and now the party, government, and Blue House are united in overcoming the COVID-19 national crisis," adding, "The by-election defeat is painful and the challenges facing the Democratic Party are heavy, but I believe the party has the capability and determination to heed the will of the people and restore their trust."

Lee stated, "The happiness of the people's lives is the value we must pursue," and pledged, "I will work harder, meet more people, and listen to their voices. I will adopt a humbler attitude and delve deeper into the lives of the people."
