Suncheon City Enrolls Citizens in Safety Insurance Guaranteed for Everyone

City Covers Full Insurance Premium, Provides Up to 20 Million KRW Support Based on 13 Coverage Items

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] Suncheon City, Jeollanam-do (Mayor Heo Seok) announced on the 15th that it has enrolled in citizen safety insurance to stabilize the lives of citizens who suffer damage from unforeseen disasters and accidents in daily life.

Citizen safety insurance is a system that allows insured individuals to receive insurance payments through the contracted insurance company in case of an accident.

All citizens residing in the city with their resident registration (including registered foreigners) are automatically enrolled without any separate subscription procedures or premium payments if they are Suncheon citizens.

Additionally, overlapping compensation is possible regardless of whether individuals have other insurance coverage.

The coverage period is one year, from the 10th of this month to April 9th of next year.

The coverage items include ▲death from natural disasters (including heatstroke and sunstroke) ▲death or permanent disability from explosion, fire, collapse, or landslide ▲death or permanent disability from public transportation accidents ▲death or permanent disability from robbery ▲school zone traffic injury treatment expenses ▲diagnosis expenses for heat-related illnesses ▲death from sinking accidents ▲injury medical expenses (drowning, agricultural machinery, falls, fire) ▲public transportation injury treatment expenses ▲burn surgery expenses, totaling 13 items.

The coverage amount is 20 million KRW in case of death, and up to 10 million KRW depending on the degree of permanent disability (3~100%). Especially this year, two new items were added: public transportation injury treatment expenses (up to 1 million KRW) and burn surgery expenses (up to 500,000 KRW), expanding the scope of benefits.

To claim insurance benefits, the victim or legal heir must submit a claim form and related documents to Hyundai Marine & Fire Insurance Co., Ltd. upon occurrence of the claim event. The claim expiration period is three years from the date of the accident.

Last year, 62 citizens received benefits from the citizen safety insurance due to accidents, confirming a high benefit rate.

A city official stated, “We will continue to promote and guide citizen safety insurance so that citizens can receive insurance benefits from unexpected disasters and accidents.”
