GS Construction Establishes ESG Committee... "Will Strengthen Eco-Friendly Future Businesses"

[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyemin] GS Construction is establishing an ESG Committee and will fully embark on ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) management.

On the 15th, GS Construction held a board meeting at its headquarters in Gran Seoul, Jongno-gu, Seoul, and approved the establishment of the ESG Committee. As a result, the existing Sustainability Management Committee has been expanded and reorganized into the ESG Committee.

Previously, GS Construction had prepared by creating a dedicated team for ESG within the Sustainability Management Division. Next year, it plans to elevate the committee to a board-level committee through the general shareholders' meeting.

The ESG Committee will serve as the core control tower for GS Construction's sustainability management going forward, setting strategies and directions to leap forward as a leading ESG company in Korea. It will be composed of five directors, including all four outside directors of GS Construction, with Lee Heeguk, an outside director, serving as the chairman. They will identify various issues related to environmental, social, and governance areas, review and approve the company's sustainability management strategies and directions, as well as performance and improvement plans.

GS Construction is already conducting several future strategic projects. Most of these future businesses focus on eco-friendly initiatives, including GS Inima, a global water treatment company, modular (prefabricated) construction, secondary battery recycling, overseas solar equity investment projects, and smart aquaculture cluster development projects.

GS Construction plans to expand the application of eco-friendly construction methods in the construction industry. A GS Construction official stated, "We have long been striving to create a new business structure in response to the ESG era," adding, "Through a strategic transition to a business structure based on ESG, we will build a future-oriented value chain and grow into a leading sustainable company."
