Maximizing Efficiency and Reducing Maintenance Costs through Integrated Management of Dispersed ITS and Traffic Facilities in the Jurisdiction
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Saeyan] Changwon City in Gyeongnam announced on the 15th that it will promote the construction project of the Changwon City Traffic Information Integrated Operation Center for the integrated management of major ITS (Intelligent Transportation Systems) and traffic facilities within the jurisdiction.
The traffic information integrated operation center to be constructed this time will have a total building area of 4,000㎡ and will be built through administrative procedures such as asset investment review, public property deliberation, and architectural planning on public office land in the Jungdong district of Uichang-gu, through a design competition. The goal is to complete construction by the end of 2023.
Metropolitan cities with populations exceeding one million have been efficiently managing major ITS facilities since 2015.
However, the city had operated the traffic signal control system and Urban Intelligent Transportation System (UITS) under the Gyeongnam Provincial Police Agency, and the CCTV integrated control center directly related to citizen safety was installed and operated separately at the Masan Fire Station.
Accordingly, to promote the project in earnest, the city reviewed the overall operation of the center, including the current facility layout, maintenance techniques for individual ITS facilities, and innovative cases.
Currently, based on the Changwon City Traffic Information Integrated Operation Center construction plan established in September last year, the city has commissioned a basic plan service for the installation and relocation of related facilities such as the distribution board and mechanical/fire facilities on the basement first floor, and the traffic situation room, CCTV control center, and parking enforcement system on the first to fourth floors above ground, which is underway.
Choi Young-cheol, Director of the Safety, Construction and Transportation Bureau, stated, "As traffic volume is increasing day by day, we plan to respond to various citizen demands by providing real-time traffic information services through the 'Traffic Information Integrated Operation Center Construction' to ensure smooth traffic flow and fast and accurate information provision."
