Private Parking Lots of Multi-family and Multi-household Homes Shared with Neighbors via Smartphone App... Over 4,000 Shares Achieved in Last Year's Pilot... Expansion to All Neighborhoods This Year
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Mapo-gu (Mayor Yudonggyun) will expand the operation of the ‘Golmok Shared Parking Project,’ which alleviates parking difficulties by sharing privately owned parking lots such as villas and multi-family houses, this year.
The district has been promoting various projects such as securing parking lots to alleviate parking difficulties, sharing resident-priority parking lots and attached parking lots, but it has been extremely difficult to secure parking spaces in urban areas, resulting in a severe shortage of parking spaces for residents.
Accordingly, the district piloted the Golmok Shared Parking Project in four neighborhoods within the area last year, achieving over 4,000 sharing cases, and also saw a reduction in illegal parking.
Based on these results, the district decided to expand the Golmok Shared Parking Project to all 16 neighborhoods in the area this year for more successful project implementation, recruiting 30 Golmok shared parking activists recommended by each neighborhood.
In March, training was conducted for these activists on registering and using the Golmok Shared Parking-related app, as well as project promotion, and from this month until November, the activists will visit residential areas to promote and guide the securing of shared parking spaces.
The method of sharing parking lots through the Golmok Shared Parking Project involves the parking space owner registering on the smartphone app (Modu-ui Juchajang) and providing the parking space at desired times, which users in need can use for the desired duration within the shared time.
Shared parking space users can pay in 30-minute increments to use the parking lot, and parking space owners receive 70% of the usage fee as profit benefits, along with support such as painting the shared parking space and installing guide signs.
The district plans to continue operating resident-priority parking sharing and opening attached parking lots, which have been promoted previously, while actively resolving residents’ parking inconveniences through the expanded Golmok Shared Parking Project.
Yudonggyun, Mayor of Mapo-gu, said, “In the future, the creation of alley parking environments should be led and participated in by residents,” adding, “I hope the Golmok Shared Parking Project promoted in Mapo will be a solution to local parking problems and a successful example of public-private cooperation, expanding nationwide.”
