[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Gwangju Metropolitan City announced on the 14th that it will designate and operate dedicated safety inspectors for the electrical sector in each traditional market to prevent fires caused by aging facilities in traditional markets.
The dedicated safety inspectors for traditional markets will consist of 20 private electrical experts and will be assigned to 25 traditional markets in the jurisdiction from next month until December.
The safety inspectors will conduct safety inspections at least twice a month on issues such as ▲ use of octopus-style power strips ▲ storage of items in front of distribution boards ▲ use of non-standard wires ▲ non-use of leakage circuit breakers ▲ ungrounded electrical equipment enclosures, and will inform merchants to eliminate hazards in advance.
In addition, safety education will be provided according to vulnerable periods regarding electrical management, which is easily neglected in daily life.
Moon Beom-su, Director of the City Safety Office, said, “Many accidents caused by user negligence occur in traditional markets, so we have been operating safety inspectors in traditional markets since last year,” and added, “We hope merchants will actively cooperate during inspections by safety inspectors to prevent safety accidents.”
