[Sejong=Asia Economy Reporter Moon Chaeseok] A Human Resource Development (HRD) training center for small and medium-sized enterprise owners and workers will be established in Gangneung-si, Gangwon-do. It is expected that once completed as scheduled in August next year, it will improve HRD infrastructure and revitalize the local economy.

On the 14th at 10 a.m., the Korea Industrial Human Resources Corporation held a groundbreaking ceremony for the HRD Training Center (tentative name) in Bangdong-ri, Sacheon-myeon, Gangneung-si. The ceremony was attended by related officials including Oh Su-bong, Chairman of the Corporation, Kwon Seong-dong, Member of the National Assembly for Gangneung-si, and Kim Han-geun, Mayor of Gangneung.

The center is the first training facility established by the Corporation. It will be built with one basement floor and four above-ground floors, covering a total floor area of 6,230㎡ (1,900 pyeong). It is scheduled to be completed in August next year. It will be used for HRD expert education and training. Company officials and workers will receive training here.

The construction of the HRD center is expected to have a positive impact on the Corporation’s main tasks such as lifelong competency development, national qualification exams, foreign employment support, overseas employment and national competency standards, and skilled technology promotion. A Corporation official explained, "We expect it to contribute to revitalizing the local economy by attracting various meetings and seminars that are concentrated in the metropolitan area."

Chairman Oh said, "I feel very meaningful that the center has broken ground," and added, "The Corporation will continue to strive as a leading HRD institution for the vocational competency development of small and medium-sized enterprises and workers."
