Last month, the number of employed people increased for the first time in 13 months. Although the number of employed people, which had declined for a consecutive year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, rebounded, it is still considered premature to view this as a full-scale employment recovery phase, given that the base effect from the significant spread of the pandemic starting in March last year played a major role.
According to the "March Employment Trends" released by Statistics Korea on the 14th, the number of employed people last month was 26,923,000, an increase of 314,000 compared to the same month last year. The employment rate for those aged 15 and over was 58.3%, also showing a slight rise of 0.3 percentage points during the same period.
