President Moon: "Considering the Murder of Three Women, Stalking Crime Punishment Law Is Urgently Needed"

<국무회의> Promulgation of Stalking Crime Punishment Act, Urging Effective Implementation... Also Requests Public Officials' Integrity Education from the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission

[Asia Economy Reporter Ryu Jeong-min] President Moon Jae-in said at the Cabinet meeting on the 13th regarding the enforcement of the Stalking Crime Punishment Act, "When I think of the triple murder case, I feel the urgency. Stalking crimes must be thoroughly prevented and eradicated."


President Moon said, "Measures against stalking crimes must be implemented effectively." He urged, "Please additionally review whether the law promulgated today contains sufficient measures against stalking. If it is insufficient, ensure follow-up measures are properly prepared through enforcement ordinances and continue to improve the system institutionally."

President Moon also gave instructions regarding integrity education for public officials.


Kang Min-seok, spokesperson for the Blue House, conveyed, "At today's Cabinet meeting, Jeon Hyun-hee, Chairperson of the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission, reported that they will enhance integrity education to improve the integrity leadership of high-ranking public officials such as ministers, vice ministers, bureau chiefs, and executives of public institutions."


President Moon asked Chairperson Jeon, "The Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission Act mandates integrity education for public officials and requires the Commission to monitor it. Is it being conducted substantively with high participation from public officials?" Chairperson Jeon replied, "We monitor the status of education completion every year and encourage compliance. We will thoroughly inspect to prevent incidents like the LH scandal from recurring."


President Moon said, "Please further strengthen the role of the Commission as the institution overseeing integrity education for public officials," and added, "Each ministry should actively cooperate with the Commission's policy to strengthen integrity education for public officials and to promote ethical and compliance management in public enterprises."
